Touchy Feely

What's in the box?

Here’s an activity that helps exercise the senses and memory. This is good for people suffering from memory loss or have early signs of dementia.

Equipment needed

  • Boxes
  • Bowl of cold porridge
  • Ball of wool or cotton wool
  • Sponge
  • Polystyrene balls
  • Banana
  • Football

The above list shows examples, but you can use any interestingly shaped objects you like.

Instructions

  1. Make a hole in each of the boxes.
  2. Place the objects in the boxes.
  3. Pass the boxes around so that residents can put their hands in and try to guess what the objects are.

You could also do this activity with just one box and change the object each time.
